The (I)Mobility project
Sonia Guggisberg, by choosing water as material and movement as subject to a deepened discussion has begun a new working series, the (I)Mobility project. She reached it with photos and videos, migrating then to video installation. In her own words: “Through projections, I could trespass ground surface, generating virtual holes”. The artist points indirectly to the destruction of human potentiality by contemporaneous life confinement, individual life restraining, loneliness and emotional isolation.
(I)Mobility provokes a visible emotional pressure state by the opposition between moving and not moving around. Maybe is an attempt of pointing fluidity as a metaphor to modern times. Different from solid, liquid is not easily contained.
This project consists of a series of works and it is presented with the purpose of showing the opposite of the silent, introspective, meditative atmosphere evoked by water. Water is here the metaphor of it’s contrary. The continuous flow deals with the contemporary illusion of constant mobility. The swimmers have their movements restrained by confinement, with no way out. They swim to exhaustion and get nowhere. They swim against the stream or get bound and confined.
The purpose is to ponder over one’s immobility facing the policies of excess of contemporary world. The excess of information that whereas puts us in constant movement, paralyses us by not allowing careful, critical and conscious consideration.
Projeto (I)Mobilidade
Sonia Guggisberg ao escolher como material a água e como assunto o movimento para uma discussão mais aprofundada, deu início a uma nova série, o projeto (I)Mobilidade. Com isso ela chegou às fotografias e vídeos migrando para a videoinstalação. Em suas próprias palavras: “através das projeções, pude atravessar a superfície do chão gerando buracos virtuais”. Indiretamente a artista aponta para o confinamento da vida contemporânea, para a limitação das liberdades individuais, para a solidão, para o isolamento emocional destruindo as potencialidades humanas.
(I)Mobilidade provoca um visível estado de pressão emocional, pela oposição entre deslocar-se ou não deslocar-se. Talvez seja uma tentativa de apontar a fluidez como metáfora para os tempos atuais. Diferente dos sólidos, os líquidos não são contidos com facilidade.
Este projeto reúne uma série de trabalhos e é apresentado com o objetivo de mostrar o oposto da atmosfera silenciosa, introspectiva e meditativa evocada pela água. A água é aqui a metáfora do contrário. O fluxo contínuo lida com a ilusão contemporânea de mobilidade constante. Os nadadores têm seus movimentos contidos pelo confinamento, sem saída. Eles nadam até a exaustão e não chegam a lugar nenhum. Eles nadam contra o rio ou são amarrados e confinados.
O objetivo é refletir sobre a imobilidade de alguém frente às políticas de excesso do mundo contemporâneo. O excesso de informação que, ao passo que nos coloca em constante movimento, nos paralisa por não permitir uma consideração cuidadosa, crítica e consciente.
Drift
Drift was performed with video recordings made inside a pool. t shows a person floating adrift, a body loose on the water. A change is caused by random interference and this will cause the body to move like a slowly floating piece of wood.
Drift reflects a state of inertia and apathy and shows the distance from reality, a situation without focus or purpose. Shown in 4 synchronized screens, it reflects the absence of presence in an aquatic and introspective environment.
Deriva
Deriva foi realizado com gravações em vídeo feitas dentro de uma piscina e mostra uma pessoa flutuando à deriva, um corpo solto sobre a água. Uma mudança é causada por uma interferência aleatória e isso fará com que o corpo se mova como um pedaço de madeira flutuando lentamente.
Deriva reflete um estado de inércia e apatia, mostra a distância da realidade, uma situação sem foco ou propósito. Apresentado por 4 telas justapostas e sincronizadas reflete a ausência de presença em um ambiente aquático e introspectivo.
